After the Salmon River salmon run ends, the elusive Steelhead will run the Salmon River. The Steelhead swim up behind the Salmon to feed on all the eggs the Salmon have dropped into the Salmon River. The Steelhead will then stay in the Salmon River from November until late April/early May, when they migrate back into Lake Ontario. The best time to target steelhead is generally November or April, but the winter months can also be very productive. The steelhead are a fish that is unmatched in fighting strength, pound for pound, than any other freshwater fish.
